Three Barnard students have recently been named winners or have received honorable mention in the Barry M. 戈德华特 奖学金 competition. The 戈德华特 奖学金 is the preeminent award for undergraduate science students in the United States. Its purpose “…is to provide a continuing source of highly qualified individuals” to the fields of mathematics, 自然科学, 和工程. Approximately 300 scholarships are awarded nationwide each year to exceptionally promising sophomores and juniors who plan to go on for the Ph.D. Each award covers up to $7,500 in tuition and other expenses for up to two years of college. (I.e., sophomore awardees receive two years of funding; juniors, one year.) “The 戈德华特 Foundation is a federally endowed agency…” and the 戈德华特 奖学金 Program, honoring Senator Barry M. 戈德华特, “… was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, 自然科学, 和工程.”
